Prevention of Child Abuse
In 1979, the National Exchange Club adopted the Prevention of Child Abuse as it’s national project. Today, the National
Exchange Club Foundation coordinates a nationwide network of 100 plus Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention
Centers across America.
Each Center participates in the parent aide program to help families break the cycle of abuse. Parent Aides serve as
role models, teaching parents how to be more loving and responsive to their children.
The Woodruff Road Exchange Club, in coordination with Greenville County DSS, has adopted a backpack project to supply children with a backpack filled with necessities when they are transitioning from their homes into Foster Care because of abuse, neglect, methamphetamine environment. Bags are packed based on age (newborn to 17) and gender, as needed by DSS. Bags include all clothing, i.e., outer wear, underwear, socks, toothbrush, paste, shampoo, etc. All bags are packed with an individual stuffed animal (for all ages) and an activity, i.e., books, games, etc.
The project began in June, 2005; several hundred bags have been packed since that time. We pack only new items for the children. For more information, call Margee Hall at 414-2782 or Doris Ash at 289-9369.
